Odes to the things

“Odes to the Things” is an homage to Pablo Neruda’s book in which the writer declares his affinity for the seemingly mundane objects that tie one’s life together: everyday things used in everyday settings that become our constant companions.

“Odes to the Things” is an homage to Pablo Neruda’s book in which the writer declares his affinity for the seemingly mundane objects that tie one’s life together: everyday things used in everyday settings that become our constant companions. In an age of feeble and ugly machine-made things, these images intend to be a call for each of us to

deepen our relationship with the objects that surround us, objects that exemplify the beauty of everyday things.

The thread that connects all these images is the thread of beauty. Learning how to see is an exercise that is within us,

to discover, the reveal, to undercover the veil that hides the shy and the underrepresented.

“I pause in houses,

streets and

elevators,

touching things,

identifying objects

that I secretly covet :

this one because it rings,

that one because

it’s as soft

as the softness of a woman’s hip,

that one there for its deep-sea color,

and that one for its velvet feel.”
