Nature knows no pause....

The poet Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe's quote 'Nature knows no pause in progress and development, and attaches her curse on all inaction' is the subject of my photobook submission to PhMuseum.

The poet Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe's quote 'Nature knows no pause in progress and development, and attaches her curse on all inaction' is the subject of my photobook submission to PhMuseum. This ongoing project explores what the quote may have been referring to, in the sense that nature, even in the face of adversity with increasing fears of the impact of global climate change being recognized by wider communities, has continued to pursue its existence all around us. We are all collectively at a point where our ability to embrace nature’s function in balancing our society and world can no longer futuristically fall by the wayside without considering the extreme circumstances with which it still finds a way to evolve alongside us. Although his quote is unexplained it represents for me the failure by us to truly endorse nature’s survival. We need to reflect and process in minutiae the impact of global climate change and in doing so examine the small changes that occur throughout nature’s seasonal year, respectively.

The macro images submitted capture a moment in time that will inevitably disappear as nature’s own time clock advances, and if we are to truly acknowledge the continuing impact of global climate change and its effect on weather patterns perhaps by examining the smaller details of nature we will be in a better position to understand and embrace the true meaning of Goethe's quote, allowing us to ethically and morally live and work alongside nature in reclaiming back our future earth.

This is my idea for a photobook; I have been working on this project for a couple of years and feel given its prominent subject matter whereby nature and the environment are now more than ever important areas to visually contemplate and represent, respectively. In doing so I have approached what I believe to be a unique theme with a more detailed photographic technique.

Simple small magnifying glass lenses were attached to a standard 50 mm lens on my Nikon DSLR. This approach was used to keep the image making more ad hoc and less formalised without using rigid scene constructions, giving a more ethereal floral display with a variety of blended colours, respectively. It was important that with the increase and fear of AI that my connection to nature remained organic and hands on so to speak, so that the presence of nature’s own reality was not based on going back to the future.
