The photographs shift between nostalgia and discovery, seeking orientation within the British landscape. The title refers not only to this emotional space but also to the visual approach: a focus on the mid-ground, where layered elements and blurred perspectives evoke a sense of disorientation.
As an ongoing and evolving body of work, Middle Distance functions as a kind of visual journal, mapping a personal and shifting relationship between two places. It is not bound to a fixed narrative or chronology but is meant to be read out of time—open to reinterpretation with each sequence, exhibition, or layout. The work invites viewers to experience it anew with every encounter, reflecting the fluid nature of memory, belonging, and perception.
Middle Distance embraces uncertainty, inviting viewers to engage without predetermined meaning. Familiar spaces are abstracted, challenging conventional perspectives, orientations, and notions of time. It asks us to consider whether we’ve arrived at a destination—or whether we’re simply pausing, suspended somewhere in-between.
