Mar is an ongoing project documenting our relationship with the ocean in Australia and the Pacific Islands. It explores how our perspectives on ecological issues are shaped by the narratives we construct, who conveys these narratives, and which audiences

Inspired by early pioneers and my experiences as a Mexican Indigenous woman in a foreign land, the images in Mar primarily focus on children and women of diverse backgrounds in joyful interaction with nature. Instead of depicting struggles, these images highlight the happiness found in vital underwater ecosystems. This perspective aims to inspire and uplift, emphasising the importance of addressing environmental concerns and creating opportunities for women and children to engage in conservation efforts.

The series encourages other Indigenous women and youth to explore storytelling through underwater photography and videography, helping to archive and amplify local ocean stories.
