knocked up is a series of silver gelatin prints showcasing self portraits of myself wearing a 6 month prosthetic pregnant belly.
knocked up is a series of silver gelatin prints showcasing self portraits of myself wearing a 6 month prosthetic pregnant belly. Exploring the depths loneliness I feel, and have felt since childhood, I am using this process of wearing this character and exploring the various tropes of women on camera that could portray a moment of content, love, or desire. I am thinking of the photographs male photographers historically have made of their wife's, of films that often kill off the mother or wife characters for plot development or motivation often accumulating in what can be referred to as the dead wife montage, and the thought of single mothers who maybe don't feel so alone with another person attached to them. Though this is an exploration of my own loneliness and spiraling desire for connections, I see this belly as a moment of proof that I was desired once, that I wasn't alone in the image, and that maybe I wont be alone moving forward.
