Kin

"Kin" is a series of portraits approaching family archives with contemporary exploration. The series examines the nuanced relationships between individuals and their maternal figures, fosterering dialogue on care and identity.

Kin emerges from a deeply personal journey, rooted in the intersection of family archives and contemporary exploration. My relationship with my mother has always been a cornerstone of my life—a bond that feels both intangible and overwhelming in its depth. The diagnosis of her cancer in 2023 introduced a sense of urgency into my creative process. Confronted with this, my artistic practice evolved into a series of portraits that capture the nuanced relationships between subjects and their mothers or maternal figures. By examining my own attachment to my mother and extending this exploration to others, I strive to create a space where diverse experiences of maternal relationships and personal solace can be seen, felt, and honored. Through this work, I seek to contribute to a broader dialogue on the complexities of care, connection, and identity.
