Into the Abyss

These works are illustrations of the juxtaposition between the reality we know and the reality of what could be, but must be experienced through more than just sight. It must be imagined.

For this project my focus is exploring the relationship between the ephemerality of nature and the ethereality of surrealist art. I always say our most intimate reference of art is nature and therefore I often look to nature for inspiration and guidance. Just as seasons change and landscapes morph throughout time, the very nature of surrealism is to transition what is perceived by the naked eye into something much more imaginative, more playful and ethereal.

I start by editing a particular image which typically is of a place in nature that ultimately helps to set the mood. The collages are also visual poetry and could be displayed to give the effect of an installation. Although I do not always include my children in my artistic process (though my oldest and his toys have been the subject of some of my work) I do consider how they can relate to the work and not only them, but all children. This is why the next step of my artistic practice - display is where I want to focus more on in the future.
