SEEING SOUND

SEEING SOUND is a continued series on sound-to-visual synesthesia in a minimalist, large-scale photographic format. In transmuting the unseen energy of sound, intuition is sublimated into resilience and resistance - into a pure light in the void.

In these photographs, sonic portraits of music float as light in pure black space. I escape into the soundscape of music and transmute it into visual as the images enter my mind's eye. I employ the technique of intentional camera movement to release the sound into the ether in visual form - the digital lens acts as an extension of identity, an energetic mirror of release and transformation. These works position the act of creation as a meditative practice, a sanctuary of resilience and resistance.

In the era of chaos, these photographs intend to offer a map into new perspectives - to see the unseen, to revel in its beauty and be absorbed by it. These works position the act of creating as asserting agency - resistance to uncertainty and outside noise in the flux of existence. The intent of the scale and high-contract of pure black and pure light is to invite the viewer into a portal - to cultivate a garden in their mind.

These were taken between 2019-2026 in travels between Toronto, Berlin, Porto, Lisbon, Nazaré, Prague, Poland, Vienna, Montréal. They include sonic renditions of music in the sky - soundscapes I escaped into in window seats on airplanes between cities and oceans.
