In Nemore - Where the Mist lifts

Inspired by the Latin nemus, a secluded, sacred woodland, the project explores the legends that inhabit Italy’s mountains, revealing a landscape where nature, memory, and imagination intertwine, blurring the boundaries between the visible and the unseen.

In Nemore - Where the Mist Lifts takes its name from the Latin nemus, a term that refers not merely to a woodland, but to a secluded, suspended place where the boundaries between nature, memory, and the unseen grow thin. In ancient tradition, the nemus was a space set apart from the ordinary world, often considered sacred, where nature held a meaning beyond its physical existence. A place of contemplation and mystery, inhabited in the imagination by deities, spirits, and invisible presences, where the landscape became a meeting point between the human world and that which transcends it.

Through a photographic exploration of the Italian mountains, the project traces the legends that still inhabit forests, rocks, and valleys, revealing a landscape where nature and imagination continue to resonate with one another.

Passed down through centuries, these narratives reflect a profound connection between people and the land. Born from the desire to interpret natural phenomena, unfamiliar places, and unexplained presences, legends have shaped a symbolic world in which every element of the landscape may hold a story.
