this body of work grapples with and examines my personal relationship to togetherness. I utilize performative intimacy to create my images, often resulting in different forms of self portraiture posing alongside others.
My practice is primarily focused on prolonged moments of performative intimacy. I often photograph myself interacting with other people, resulting in images of bodies intertwined or attached to each other. With each work I am examining where my personal desires and longings stem from, often mimicking moments of intimacy I see in film, or from my memories combined with family archives, using the feeling of creating images from a place of lack. The gestures in my work are performed between myself and a variety of people, some family members or friends, some are men I meet on dating apps, and others are strangers I approach in public asking if they will participate in this project with me. Every body, including my own, act as a stand in for something else. Weather that be a stand in for one of my family members, past partners, a specific emotion or metaphor, or myself, I use this process as a way to reorient and explore the current circumstances of my life. This has been a year long process so far and I currently feel at the peek of this exploration with new images on my horizon, new language and references building, and a show in my hometown in March of this year.
