In my series "I must know that the rain means no harm", I deal with the dualities that characterize human life on the volcanic island of Stromboli.

Due to the activity of the volcano and the natural isolation of an island, life on the island is constantly confronted with a choice between coming, going and staying. While many people leave the island in search of experiences, others return because of a longing for connection and in turn influence social interaction with their experiences.

The story of Stromboli describes a constant change in harmony with two forces of nature: The sea and the volcano. Both enable the place to live a diverse, colorful life and are at the same time a reminder of a hierarchy that subordinates man to nature.

The island is a balancing act between deceleration and turmoil, between isolation and connection, which results in a very special attitude towards life.

In this series, I work visually with juxtapositions of the naked body and natural elements. These create a symbiosis between man and nature, which at the same time refer to the vulnerability of human life. The movements of the anonymous individual through an otherwise deserted environment tell a story about the nothingness of human existence, which finds solace in this commonality.
