"Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence." — Desiderata by Max Ehrmann
This ongoing series explores the themes of finding calm amidst chaos, discovering beauty in the mundane, and seeking connection through close observation. The photographs invite meditative reflection, offering stillness and simplicity as a way to find peace in the transitory and unexpected.
Through taking photographs, I aim to embrace the routines of everyday life and navigate the chaotic nature of the world by studying it closely. Moving frequently has been a constant in my life, and the process of photographing my surroundings has become a way for me to connect with each new place I come to call home. By noticing and capturing small details, I begin to feel more at ease in unfamiliar spaces.
My subjects for this series often emerge from neighborhood walks in towns across New England or sometimes from within my own home. I’m drawn to moments of emptiness and stillness, scenes that feel slightly out of place and make me pause. By capturing them as they are—usually without interference—I highlight the randomness, beauty, and imperfections of still lifes and street scenes, revealing a sense of calm in the midst of chaos.
In the portraits included in the series, I focus on intimate close-ups that partially obscure the subject, inviting viewers to imagine their story.
Ultimately, this body of work offers a poetic reflection on quiet moments and the subtle ways we can find connection and meaning in everyday life.
