The photo serie, Family Album, circles around themes such as identity, memory and intimacy. The project is an attempt to capture, re-construct and reunite my own family history across time and place – across three generations.

The photo serie, Family Album, circles around themes such as identity, memory and intimacy. The images, of three generations, are taken over a number of years. The images paraphrase the traditional family album. Despite the fact that the images appear as tableaux or stillebens, they have not been staged, but have rather emerged out of an everyday situation.

My practice consists of continuous components. Particularly a fascination of skin's elasticity and ability to both capture light and reflect it and the mirror is an archetypal identity reference and used in art historically as a classic benchmark. Family Album, reflects themes such as time and memory - and the abstract moment – of Now!

In my photographs I draw on the heritage of European painting art history, particularly from Goya and Rembrandt's chiaroscuro practice and Hammershøi’s Nordic light and dense darkness. My study field and general interest lies particularly in the relationship between verfremdungseffect and studies of the close and familiar. In many ways, Family Album, is an attempt to capture, re-construct and reunite my own family history across time and place – across three generations.
