Every Path Finds Its Flow

Every Path Finds Its Flow is an open-ended exploration rooted in the hometown where I grew up, unfolding through imagery along the threads of my imagination.

Every Path Finds Its Flow is a free-form exploration rooted in the hometown where I grew up, unfolding through imagery along the threads of my imagination. I piece together my own answers little by little, allowing the past and present to reconcile in the frozen frames of photographs, and reweaving the bonds between myself, my family, and this land. This is an echo of a past I never lived—a parallel world of love, an open narrative of a group of people who met and parted. Perhaps the past and the present were never opposing banks, but different stretches of the same river; just like every road, it will eventually find its own direction at every fork in the way.

I found these photographs in a leather suitcase left behind by my grandfather. At first, they did not capture much of my attention—those images felt far too distant and unfamiliar to me. When the old family house was renovated a few years ago, I put away these "visual heirlooms" with the thought of preserving them. It was not until I opened the suitcase again that the details in the photos struck me all of a sudden: the wine glasses raised high at the gatherings of the older generation, the gentle sweep of the wind across their shoulders...

Like sampling music, I clip, cut and rearrange them. I pore over these images repeatedly, savouring the resonance they create when pieced into a narrative. In the still of the night, this sound lingers, now distant, now near—these visual snippets are my own "soul music". Time and again, the details that strike me shift with every new perspective. These frozen frames on photographic paper hold no grand epics, no forced solemnity, yet they let me rediscover the intertwined threads of family and this land, quietly paving a gentle corridor for unhurried dialogue between the past and the present.
