On January 3 of 2016 I was on my daily trip on a “J” train from Lower Manhattan via Brooklyn to Queens where I live. I shot the whole trip through the train window using my phone with the photo timer set at 3 seconds intervals. In 2025 I created 12 large composite images with 16 pictures in each using photographs from my train trip photo timer shots.
I did not use all of the pictures from that trip, but rather the selection of 192 photographs and composed them in order they were shot along the way to my final destination. Also, I have 8 images which belong to the same project, but have a different “flavor” in them. They are a combination of 4 pictures and are called “Subway Baroque,” since I used the train window semi-transparent graffiti to create this baroque-like ornament layover over the subjects of my trip.
I used my iPhone digital pictures as a base of these composite images made using Photoshop. Original images are cropped to scale and put in a grid of 4 rows of 4 images horizontally resulting in 16 separate images used in one composite, thus making a resolution of the composite image suitable for the high-quality large prints.
