My Belgium
These 20 images are part of three separate series that I create in my home country, Belgium, – a country that is very organized and where more and more rules are being made.
As a photojournalist, I often travel to conflict areas where there are few or no rules. In this job, I am expected to work as objectively as possible and not manipulate reality. When I create a series as a photojournalist, it should be consistent in both content and form.
It is these two factors that probably explain why the images in my personal Belgian work go in many different directions, don't tell a direct story, and the connection between them is only based on a ‘feeling’. So, not much meaningful can be said about this series, except that for me, it is a way to come to terms with the country where I was born and still live – and where I feel there are too many rules...
