Bleached Moments

The series explores the archives of photo-company Kodak by diving into industrial images and publicities found near the site of a former factory in France.

"Bleached Moments" aims to reactivate a collection of images found in the archives of the Nicéphore Niépce Museum (Chalon-sur-Saône, FR). These are industrial photographs documenting the production of film and photo-paper at Kodak, as well as advertisements created by the brand to promote its products.

Details from these archives were cut out and reproduced as chromogenic prints to be altered using various chemical products. The ghostly appearance resulting from this destruction reveals a toxicity inherent to this analog technology while infusing it with a certain nostalgic sentiment.

Referring to a time when the fluidity and immateriality of images did not exist, these photographs focus on the supremacy of the moment. This is an imaginary world built by Kodak in the 20th century to sell its products, one that faded away with the advent of the digital age. 

The project invites us to question our relationship to photographic moments, which are therefore considered to be industrially constructed.

"Bleach Moments" has been produced during residency Picto Lab supported by Picto Foundation and during Nicéphore Niépce Museum residency program in 2024. The series is scheduled to be published with RVB Books in fall 2025.
