Beyond the skin

We are nature.

I have tried to write a text about the series ‘Beyond the skin’. Words that would support the pictures. Firstly, I wrote about how it all began. That became a very personal and vulnerable story. That has now been deleted. The origin may be personal, but the whole series has a wider theme. I investigated the facts that supported the images and wrote them up, but it didn't add anything fundamental. After that I wrote poetic texts. Single words and short sentences. It was pathetic, and didn't work.

Everything that I add to the pictures in full sentences determines part of the story that the viewer forms. In doing so it takes away from the air and space for the photos to be more than what my sentences say. When I take photos, I do so intuitively. In addition, giving a story with a framework feels unnatural. Hence these single words. I give you a direction. The story is up to you.

We are nature

• Skin

The outer protective layer of the body of any animal, including of a human.

• Nature

The natural world; that which consists of all things unaffected by or predating human technology, production, and design. E.G. the ecosystem, the natural environment, virgin ground, unmodified species, laws of nature.

• Vulnerability

a specific weakness in the protections or defences surrounding someone or something.

• Protection

The process of keeping (something or someone) safe.

• Cycle

An interval of space or time in which one set of events or phenomena is completed.

A complete rotation of anything.

A process that returns to its beginning and then repeats itself in the same sequence.

• Balance

A state in which opposing forces harmonise; equilibrium.
