"Atlântica" is an intimate look at the north coast of São Paulo state. Aiming to capture sensations and particularities of that region - an area that its identity is challenged by growing impacts of climate change.
The photobook dummy Atlântica is the result of 5 years photographing a specific region of Brazil: the northern coast of the state of São Paulo. There, the encounter between forest, mountain and sea gives rise to a unique way of life marked by a close relationship between the inhabitants of the region and the nature that surrounds them.
People, fauna, flora and territory enveloped by the humid force of the forest and the relentless sea spray. And surrounded by the corrosive advance of urbanization. Roots, families and traditions that reproduce, evolve and dissolve, experiencing a tension between tradition and modernity. The impermanence of life is reflected both in human relationships and in the changing nature of the environment, especially with the increasing impacts of climate change.
On this coast, and with intimacy with the community I seek the undefined border between melancholy and enchantment. The edge between the past that perseveres and the present swallowed up by the force of the forest, salt and time.
