24 explores my search for femininity through my mother, a former model whose image became both an ideal and a burden, revealing the tension between embodying societal norms and creating my own identity.
24 explores my identity as a woman, shaped by my mother, a former model, whose image became both an ideal and a burden. Through self-portraiture, archive pictures and staged photographs of us together, I examine how my sense of self is entwined with hers. Our relationship, oscillating between love and tension, reflects my struggle with femininity: admiration for what it embodies and resistance to the pressure to conform. Over a year of collaboration, through conversations and photography, I investigated how this dynamic was built around her as a ‘role model’ guiding me toward absolute femininity, and how I navigate finding my own identity while physically resembling her yet feeling profoundly different.
