Held in the heart of Paris, in the emblematic Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, PhotoSaintGermain, directed by Aurélia Marcadier, is an annual festival designed to promote photographic creation.

Overview

Every year in November, PhotoSaintGermain brings together a selection of museums, cultural centers, galleries and bookstores around a rich and eclectic photographic itinerary - a program proposed both by the associated galleries and institutions and by the festival team, through new exhibitions.

The festival is rooted in a particular geography, rich in history and culture, that of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and seeks to bring together and associate all the players who make up this geography. The strong support of local players for this event, which has become a highlight of the Parisian Month of Photography, has demonstrated the ability of galleries and institutions to unite around a medium. With the loyal support of Parisian institutions and partners, PhotoSaintGermain welcomes a public from the Paris region, in addition to photography professionals, collectors and gallery and museum-goers.

Echoing these exhibitions, PhotoSaintGermain also offers an associated program of meetings, screenings, signings and studio visits, bringing together artists, managers of public collections, collectors, publishers, graphic designers, booksellers, critics and curators.
All these events address the major trends in contemporary photography and question the ways in which it is promoted and distributed.

In addition to exhibitions by associated galleries, the festival presents original exhibitions and new projects. This year, eight are PhotoSaintGermain co-productions or productions: L'enfance Aliénée Sous L'œil Du Docteur Bourneville at the Musée d'Histoire de la Médecine, Les Immortels at Librairie Alain Brieux, Années 1930 Et Modernité: The Golden Age Of Medical Journals in the Salons du Doyen de la Faculté de Pharmacie de Paris, a new festival venue. In addition, the new exhibition in partnership with Cnap at the Galerie du Crous de Paris, featuring the work of a selection of winners of the Cnap documentary grant, Bayeté Ross Smith's Our Kind Of People series at the Musée national Eugène-Delacroix in partnership with the Centre de la photographie de Mougins. Plus, Friends From France presenting the work of Antanas Sutkus at the Hôtel La Louisiane, as part of the Lithuanian Season in France, Clara Prioux's work on the Quai de Solférino, and the 3rd edition of the Room Service project at the Hôtel La Louisiane, thanks to which visitors can discover the hotel's 3rd-floor rooms occupied by a dozen artists.

Among the festival highlights is the Nuit du Photojournalisme, taking place on 9th November. An event presented by the Fondation Carmignac, CatchLight, Dysturb and PhotoSaintGermain, with discussions, debates, screenings and music all night long, at the Saint-Côme amphitheatre.
