Budapest Photo Festival 2026

The Budapest Photo Festival is an annual city-wide exhibition series that represents the contemporary and classical values of photography through the presence of the Hungarian and international art scene.

Overview

The Budapest Photo Festival is an annual city-wide event that brings together contemporary and historical photography through exhibitions, public programmes, and professional events across Hungary’s capital. Founded in 2017 by photographer Szilvia Mucsy and art historian Rita Somosi, the festival aims to position Budapest as a “city of photography” by connecting local and international artists, galleries, museums, and cultural institutes. Each edition features a major international opening exhibition and a survey of contemporary Hungarian photography, alongside numerous shows, talks, workshops, portfolio reviews, and educational programmes held across the city.

The 2026 edition marks the festival’s 10th anniversary and continues its commitment to presenting both international masters and emerging voices in photography. Among the highlights is a major exhibition dedicated to the work of photographer René Burri, alongside curated projects that foreground contemporary Hungarian photography.
