Vantage Point Sharjah 12

The 12th edition of the exhibition dervies its title, If i were antohter, from a poem by Mahamoud Darwish. The exhibiton featured works refelct on personal experiences, hisotyr and collective memories that resonate with universal human experiences.

Illuminating Shores

The work explores ecology and biopolitics through the dual lens of theatre and visual art. In this vibrant, ongoing photo series, Illuminating Shores is part of an archive he is developing centred on bodies of water and the communities that sustain them. Mapping a three-month journey across five states in India, these photographs were taken during a time of nationwide unrest, where multiple protests and lockdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic disproportionately displaced and cost the lives of working-class communities. The artist focused on reflecting the working-class life around water bodies, having grown up in a coastal town. In this series, he transforms imagery of the mundane, such as fishermen on boats, into ethereal, dream-like vignettes, creating a world where time and space, reality and illusion all blur into one. The subjects navigating these intangible, watery scenes come to symbolise the idea of hope and transcendence.
