We’re excited to present ‘The Looking Glass Self’, SAUT’s first exhibition, carried out in collaboration with Circle Culture Gallery.

Where SAUT brings a fresh approach to creating visibility for emerging talent within the contemporary art scene, Circle Culture Gallery brings decades of experience as an established part of the art world. Through this collaboration, SAUT continues its commitment to promoting underrecognised talent and giving artists access to the spaces and audiences they deserve.

The Looking Glass Self explores the way individuals develop a sense of self through the act of being perceived. We imagine how we are seen, imagine how we are judged and form an emotional response to that imagined judgement. What happens when the self is not formed in isolation but through the reflections it receives, anticipates or invents?

Each artwork explores how, the moment one becomes visible, legible or available to interpretation, the self is no longer contained entirely within itself. It becomes exposed to projection, recognition, misrecognition and change.

Stay tuned for more information about our exhibiting artists. Make sure you’re present for the opening to meet the artists!
