Another Love Story by Karla Hiraldo Voleau at La Nombreuse

La Nombreuse is pleased to present Another Love Story by Karla Hiraldo Voleau, her first solo show in Belgium.

Overview

Another Love Story reconstructs a year-long romantic relationship with ‘X’, when the artist discovers, after a phone call with him, that he has been leading a double life. Hiraldo Voleau quickly decides to replay the story in order to appropriate a story that she did not ultimately experience, by reproducing more than 300 vernacular images identically with the help of a lookalike of “X”.

Alongside the transcript of the phone call that changed her life, these visual fragments of the relationship become proof of its existence, and this device shows how photography can seduce and lie at the same time, while transforming the break-up into a gesture of emancipation.

About The Artist

Karla Hiraldo Voleau, (b. 1992, is a French-Dominican artist, based in Lausanne. She holds a Master’s in Photography from ECAL (Lausanne, Switzerland, 2018). Her first photobook, Hola Mi Amol (2019), earned her recognition as a Foam Talent (2020), VFG prize laureate (2018), and Aperture finalist (2019). She won the Olympus Recommended Fellowship (2020), the Talent Picto prize (2024), and exhibited at Art Basel, becoming a finalist in the Swiss Design Awards (2022). Her work has been shown at Paris Photo as a solo (2024), at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg (2020), French National Library BNF (2025), ICP New York (2023), FoAM (2020), and Bündner Kunstmuseum (2024), among other international venues. Her solo exhibition Another Love Story debuted at MEP Paris (2022) and toured internationally. The project was published as her second photobook by Mörel Books (2023).
