Presented at The Common Guild as part of Glasgow International 2026, A moment of darkness at noon marks Joanna Piotrowska's first exhibition in Scotland. The exhibition features newly commissioned large-scale photographs, collages, and site-specific installations created in response to the gallery space.

Known for her psychologically charged photographs, Piotrowska explores the complexities of family relationships, intimacy, childhood, and human behaviour. Her images often unfold in domestic interiors or carefully constructed settings, where everyday gestures become emotionally ambiguous and quietly unsettling.

This new body of work draws on Jungian psychoanalysis, combining photographs from the artist's family archive with landscapes, close-up portraits, rock formations, and fragmented bodies. Moving between memory, dreams, and the unconscious, the works reflect on identity, personal history, and the traces of experiences that continue to shape us. The exhibition also includes photographic collages and framing devices that extend these ideas into the gallery space.

About The Artist

Joanna Piotrowska is a photographer and visual artist based in Porto, Portugal. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and the Royal College of Art in London, she developed a practice centred on photography, performance, and film. Her work investigates intimacy, family dynamics, power, and the psychological dimensions of everyday life.
