Offering a SEK 100,000 grant, The Hasselblad Foundation encourages the development of nature photography in the Nordic countries.
Overview
In line with Victor Hasselblad’s strong interest in nature and environmental issues, the Hasselblad Foundation has awarded a Nature Photography Grant since 2008 to promote the development of nature photography as a genre in the Nordic region.
The grant supports innovative photographic explorations of nature, the environment, and landscapes in projects that also contribute to the development of nature photography as a genre. Previously awarded every two years, the grant will be awarded annually from 2026 onwards. Photographers seeking full or partial funding for artistic or documentary projects in the field of nature photography are eligible to apply.
Practical Info
Aimed at supporting photographic explorations of nature, landscape, and environment that advance the field of nature photography, the grant is open to photographers from or based in a Nordic country (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland). Submission must include up to 10 images, and applications can be submitted by individuals or groups.
In the evaluation process, particular emphasis is placed on the project’s focus on current environmental issues and its representation of biodiversity. There will also be consideration for human impact on nature and climate, and the incorporation of collaborations and interdisciplinary perspectives.
The jury for this year's edition consists of Mats Björkman (Senior Lecturer, Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Gothenburg), Andréas Hagström (Archive and Library Manager, Hasselblad Foundation), Jenny Nordquist (artist and curator), Louise Wolthers (Head of Research / Curator, Hasselblad Foundation).
