Photoworks is pleased to launch the third iteration of the Ampersand/Photoworks Fellowship, open to mid-career photographer living in the UK.
Overview
The Ampersand/Photoworks Fellowship is one of the few high-profile, UK-based open-access opportunities for mid-career photographers that supports artists in creating and exhibiting new work. This opportunity aims to enable and nurture the creation of new work through a combination of support, including a £15,000 award, mentoring, curatorial support, a dedicated public programme, and digital content with international reach, production budget, and touring exhibition.
Practical Info
All applications must be submitted online. Applicants are required to provide a written statement that gives an overview of their project and their vision for its ideal exhibition. This statement must also detail how the Spectrum Photographic sponsorship would be utilized and explain the transformative impact this opportunity would have on the artist's career, enabling a crucial step forward in their practice. Plus, applicants must submit up to 15 images. These can be work-in-progress images from the project they are pitching or examples of previous work.
The awardee will create new work for approximately 12 months from 2025 to 2026, ready to be exhibited by Photoworks in 2026. The entire programme, including the resulting exhibition, will be curated and produced by Photoworks in collaboration with partner exhibition venues. They are looking for projects that are already in the development phase, that will benefit from financial resources and curatorial guidance, and which can be completed in a 12-month timeframe. An expert panel of curators and artists will decide the shortlist and final selection of the fellowship awardee.
The selection panel is composed of Shoair Mavlian (Director, The Photographers’ Gallery), Charmaine Toh (Senior Curator, International Art –Photography–Tate), Felicity Hammond (Artist and current Ampersand / Photoworks Fellow), Flor Souto (CEO, The Ampersand Foundation), and Danit Ariel – (Curator, Photoworks).
