CLOSER - SEEDS AS HUMANS
Seeds Close to Human 2024
The many faces of the Grenadilla Passiflora, indigenous to Brazil but found also emigrated to South Africa. I picked it up on a footpath in Table Mountain, Cape Town. At home I cut the greenish rugby ball shaped fruit in half and I was in awe of the perfect row of black seeds stacked in the centre of the fruit. Curious to see how the fruit might change, I snapped away daily. Then magic happened. I woke up one surrounded by tiny white stars floating like fairies in my room. Recently I revisited my archive of starry fairies. Reprocessing then new “faces” and facial expressions made me realize how much Closer I and they had grown together. They express my range of human mental states and emotions - from dreamy to scared to ecstatic celebration.
For this new series I Include one of them, Seeding the Sky, that was selected in 2022 for inclusion in the PhMuseum Art Festival and published in the special publication
Publication in the book, In the Sun On the Moon that accompanied the art museum’s festival in September 2022. Also a gift of my own “virtual room”, so to speak in the museum.
