In my series It runs in the family, I investigate oppressive family patterns. When parents do not process their childhood traumas, they can pass on their beliefs, fears and frustrations on their children.

I became fascinated by the theme of Intergenerational Trauma. Experiences from parents lives leave their marks on subsequent generations. Using the images, I look for answers to questions such as: what influence does the history of my (ancestors) parents have on the choices I make? Why do certain events repeat themselves in successive generations? Where do my feelings of guilt and responsibility come from?

How I work
I create images of childhood memories, fragments of thoughts and associations that I combine with old photos from my family album that I edit.
