IS-LAND

IS-LAND. This year I have often thought about my work on insularity, how insularity intersects with the experiences that we have lived due to the pandemic. I thought about 3 works I done before, during and after the lockdown and how these works could interact with each other.

01: “Insula” (2015-2019), a body of work in several chapters, for this call I extract a series of mental islands, “Insulàrio”. In Insulàrio the island becomes a micro-world, a minimal unit of cartographic space and a stage at the same time. An ideal place that has the size of the refuge. A place where I find myself, every time I identify the characteristics of other spaces.

02: "Q" (2020), my visual notes during the lockdown. The first photos of this series are blue. They are photos taken in that period when I felt in an aquarium without water. The only water I could find was in screenshots and images stolen from films and documentaries. Everything else was gray, and grainy.

03: “Immaginarti isola” (2020) is the result of an artist residence made impossible by the Covid-19 pandemic: an opportunity to think a place I never seen before and 900 km away from me.
