ČAROLIJE (MAGIC)

These portraits of young Roma girls aged between 7 and 15 years were taken in gipsy suburbs of Belgrade, Serbia in 2007 and 2008. Their appearance and their pose refer directly to fashion photos represented in magazines.

I chose this metaphor voluntarily to avoid the stereotypes about this ethnic minority showing bad life conditions, discrimination or their non-integration. The main aim of this project was to make the connection between these girls and artistic realization. They were asked to be photographed in the way they wanted to see themselves by choosing their clothes, background cloth, make up and accessories.
