THE UNCANNY: CHAPTER IV

The project offers to connect with the many realities of Congo DR by sharing experiences of life in the capital city of Kinshasa.

The Uncanny is a long term project started in 2011 in the DRC.

This is the last chapter of the story. In Chapter 4, I chose to connect with the many realities of Congo DR by sharing experiences of life in the capital city of Kinshasa.

Rather than delivering a visually backed analysis of the country and focusing on its crises, this project offers to involve viewers in the Congolese environment by immersing them in a subjective experience of life in the city, with its people.

By accompanying TV-news teams reporting on local news, following local groups of dancers and visiting parties, weddings, and daily scenes, the project aims to alter the usual conflict-focused depiction of the country by presenting alternative narratives. By doing so, it connects with the DRC, its people, and their realities and presents events that matter to the Congolese, which rhythm their daily life instead of portraying the periodic disasters usually represented in the international media.
