Oseyev

Vladimir Seleznev

2013 - 2020

Oseyev is a fictional city that that looks like a ghost town in this project. It basically consists of the territory of Moscow’s metropolitan area that is taken up by new mass-housing projects.

All the photographs were taken in inhabited residential areas. Additionally, there have been included advertisement issued by development companies and personal belongings of residents.

The documents and photographs presented here do not confirm the narrative about an abandoned town, but they don’t undermine it either. The viewer is encouraged to make his or her own conclusions about what Oseyev really is: be it a little-known, unmapped location or a typical contemporary urban phenomenon that reflects the peculiarities of the time, environment and state of society that, ultimately, made such a space possible.
