A very intense and nostalgic story made of photographs, a tale told by looks, landscapes, images that have been faded by time: a route that retraces the extraordinary story of the old town of Apice, partially evicted due to the earthquake in Irpinia in 1962 and then completely destroyed and abandoned after the second earthquake, in 1980.
Today, what’s left of old Apice is the great journey through the images proposed by the artist. Thanks to this, dead places get back to life: these places were once the background to everyday gestures, today they are occupied by the memories of the souls that have never left them.
This work was born thanks to what has been founded on the ground: sheets of glass, medium-size negatives, 35 mm negatives found in the back of a coffins shop, buried under the moist ground.
Next to these first findings, the photographer made negatives of old Apice, that has been buried to give to the pictures the same veil of destruction and longing that lingers in the town.
A contradiction made of images where time does not mean destruction and abandon
