Joan of the Dark

Simon Émond

2021 - Ongoing

Produced during the past year, Joan of the Dark is a photographic work deployed in the form of a series.

It is an often-overlooked fact: Lac Saint-Jean is a hydroelectric reservoir built as such in 1926 when the gates of the Isle-Maligne dam were closed. The lake is thus the result of the flooding of fertile farmlands, Indigenous gathering spaces, as well as villages like Jeanne-d'Arc (Joan-of-Arc). Moved by this story and by the name of the village, I took up an artistic residency at the Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon, where the community of the village was located.
