Xenophobia during the Coronavirus pandemic / Quarantine in Lima, Peru

At every juncture, waves of xenophobia are unleashed against the Venezuelan population who live in Peru. And in the case of this complex and delicate pandemic, it undoubtedly occurred again.

At every juncture, waves of xenophobia are unleashed against the Venezuelan population who live in Peru. And in the case of this complex and delicate pandemic, it undoubtedly occurred again. I noticed that xenophobia is on the rise and rejection of our population is quite present.

Being a migrant, the conditions of vulnerability during this pandemic are accentuated, and although crime and other negative aspects linked to the Venezuelan population are clear, like any other in the world, I have been able to detect the constant use of stereotypes and xenophobic adjectives such as: criminals, scourges, monkeys, profiteers, sick, infected or in poor health, unhygienic, and individuals whose lives are worth nothing, and deserve death for using the borders.

For this project, I work from screenshots of xenophobic comments from news posts on the social networks Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, and web pages that I continuously monitor; as well as the collation of information on media web pages.
