"Is that all there is, is that all there is? If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing Let's break out the booze and have a ball If that's all there is"
With the proliferation of information in the digital age of social media, podcasts, livestreams, and more, the foundation of our collective reality has started to unravel and fall apart. As talking heads rally their listeners, we find ourselves in a battle for truth. "is that all there is?" explores not the physical manifestations of this battle but rather the trace of emotions it leaves behind. Where there was once certainty there is now doubt. Where there was comfort there is now fear. However, while we discover that we no longer share an agreed upon reality, we discover for ourselves what matters to us. In a burning house we realize what was precious to us.
Distraught with what has been happening socially and politically around me since 2016, I didn’t know if I should feel discouraged by the hate I was witnessing or if I should feel inspired by resistance to that hate. I felt both and as a result I wanted to attempt to photograph what it felt like to be caught between these opposing feelings.
What began as an attempt to find an answer as to what to feel or what to believe, became a way to accept and communicate a feeling. Instead of trying to resolve my own turmoil, I let it become the focus of the images.
