Inheritance is a response to death trauma through the exploration of grief and intimacy in a declining environment.

Inheritance is a response to death trauma through the exploration of grief and intimacy in a declining environment. I balance this narrative by juxtaposing intimate and poignant moments captured between my parents, with photos of their scars, scenes of dereliction, ecological decay, and environmental change.

Centered around the idea of pre-emptive bereavement and the expectation of loss, I explore the process of watching my parents age as an analog to climate grief. It fills me with joy to see how they soften over the years, and yet, also shakes me with a terror marked by the cognizance of their mortality. This tension of joy and fear becomes a lens for coming into dialogue with the endemic suffering of our times and the ambient uncertainty brought on by ecological change, political unrest, and social struggle.

The images in Inheritance combine to form a lyrical narrative of care, loss, and struggle in a world faced with conflict and instability. Together, they paint an emotional journey of fragility and heartbreak, while giving testament to love’s enduring capacity to bond us through suffering, in the formulation of beauty and meaning.
