“In: The Society of the Snow” is an editorial project that reflects, in a personal way and through the image, on the cinematographic shooting: “The Society of Snow”, film directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, inspired on the same title book by Pablo Vierci.
Through my privileged position as a still photographer on the set of the film “The Society of Snow”, directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, and produced by Belén Atienza, Sandra Hermida and Juan Antonio Bayona for Netflix, I carried out a personal work that intertwined the true story with the story of the filming and also my personal state at the time, affected by the recent loss of my father, just few days before I got into the film.
This project is a flow of emotions, explained through the image, which are not afraid to expose or show themselves, and which sail through all the layers and sublayers that this story hides. From the fine border line between life and death, to the capacity for success of teamwork, passing through the solitude of the human individual in the middle of the mountain range and the distance from the natural habitat of each one.
A photographic discourse worked with the greatest firmness and respect for those who were in the mountain, and also for those who worked on the film project.
The result aims to leave the viewer in shock, with an avalanche of images that add up to each other, generating new representations that define everything described above and structuring itself with its own particular code.
David Campany quoted the following:“In: The Society of the Snow” escapes definition and defies categories. Is this a “book of a film”? A reconstruction? A deconstruction? An allegory of fragile truth and memory? Post-documentary? An act of historical redemption of catharsis? A work of fiction, or a detective story? In an era in which there are no fixed ways to represent reality or know the past, “In: The Society of Snow” cuts is own unique path through the confusion, to present a rich challenge to the viewer.
