Ice shanties

Ice Shanties is a nocturnal and diurnal look at the use of space and human life expressions around winter fishing huts in Brattleboro, VT.

The ephemeral and temporary characteristics of these shanties and the surrounding environment allows us to creative imaginary narratives far from those in the tropics. The night, the absence or presence of the moon, the day and drastic temperature changes, are some of the elements that complement these narratives and push them farther from reality. Life outside the fishing huts is simple yet complex. The absence of the human element puts an emphasis on what once happened and what is left behind: sled scars on the snow, footsteps and fishing holes, wind patterns and machinery, a dead fish. City lights complement these narratives as we imagine where this moon-like landscape is located.
