“Commodifiable Photography Remix” is a collage project that de/re constructs photography auction catalogs. These cut and pasted images sell for thousands of dollars on the secondary market. Each piece’s contents come from one auction catalog only and this confine presents empirical evidence about what was socially or monetarily valuable at the time of the sale. We are presented with a time capsule exposing who could work as a photographer, how different races, genders, classes or people were portrayed, what the ideal and supreme image of beauty was, and how photography can perpetuate or normalize these standards. I observe, state, and challenge the system that enables photographers to sell their work for so much money, and I highlight their at times exploitative subject matter.
