Florence Goupil PHmuseum Limited Edition Print
Florence Goupil, a Peruvian-French photographer. She is currently one of the Explorers for National Geographic Explorer. She began her studies in History of Art at Denis Diderot University in Paris and later went on to study at L'École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Rennes, where she graduated in Multimedia and Editorial Design.
Raised in an Andean family, sheltered by the stories of their traditions, but educated in the French school, Florence grew up between two cultures. Hence her deep commitment to issues such as human rights, territory and spirituality in Peru and Latin America.
Her work has been exhibited at the ICP (New York) and published in National Geographic, Polka Magazine, PHmuseum and other international media. In 2020 she has been nominated for the Joop Swart Masterclass of Worldpress photo and was awarded a grant by National Geographic Society to carry out a photographic and audio project on native corn and its link to rural farmers in Mexico and Peru. She is currently based in Peru doing a reportage on the COVID-19 situation in an indigenous community, after obtaining the National Geographic Society COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists. For this project, she was recently awarded the 2020 Getty Images Reportage Grant and the Pulitzer Center Rainforest Journalism Found Grant.
It is said that there was a time when spirits dressed like people and animals and walked among us. That when man forgot his nature, most of them never crossed over into this world again. But some remained in the shadows waiting to be seen. "I have memories about a journey, but I don't know if they are mine" is a series of ethereal stories from deep Peru that in today’s world survive as urban myths and are part of the identity of its people.
