"The Muses"

Ozodi Onyeabor

2017 - Ongoing

This submission is a compilation of my work. All from separate projects, but together tell the same story.

This submission contains pieces from some of my previous visual series:

"An Ode to A DAMNed Man" (2018) - inspired by Kendrick Lamar's "DAMN." album to explore the complexities of masculinity, sexuality and vulnerability in young Black men.

"That Yeehaw Spice Ain't So Nice" (2019) - All things aren't so sweet when that yeehaw spice is in the mix. This ongoing series in inspired by the Yeehaw agenda trend; moreso an ode to Black cowboys and Solange's homage to her Texas roots.

This submission also contain pieces from my ongoing visual series, "CHILDREN OF VENYS // LE ENFANTS DE VENYS NOIR," (2019) which is inspired by the life and death of Saartjie "Sarah" Baartman (Venus Hottentot) and Saidiya Hartman's "Venus In Two Acts" to celebrate the Black human form and its reclamation from erasure of identity.

Despite the different series each photo derives from, altogether the photos are a collection of muses I center my work around: Black men, women, and gender non-conforming bodies who yearn to see themselves represented with the utmost authenticity. "The Muses" is my celebration of them. To a greater point, a celebration of the Pan-African diaspora in all it's fibers.
