Would you ever have imagined that the world would stop one country at a time? Initially China. Then Italy and Europe, followed by the Americas and the rest of the world. All of a sudden, the whole planet in lockdown. By April 2020, more than 3.9 billion people, or half of the world's population, were asked or ordered to stay at home by their governments to prevent the spread of a pandemic.

While the effects of the pandemic are still present in our everyday life, with this online show we wish to remember the feelings and emotions we felt when it all started around a year ago thanks to the +6,000 images presented by the participants of the PHmuseum 2020 Mobile Photography Prize. The idea of including all of them in an erratic and non-curated flow is intentional. We aim indeed to replicate the overflow of information and emotions that surrounded most of us in the spring of 2020 when we were unprepared for an event of such magnitude.

The show experience is non-replicable as the images appear indeed in a random order that changes every time you reload the page – or leave it open without interacting for more than 5 seconds. We hope it will be a stimulating way of discovering the content and generating your personal visual mosaic to recollect what happened and what we were feeling in those days. Hoping that remembering these unprecedented times will not only be a way to reconsider our relationship with home, family, and community – yet also an opportunity to inspire a positive change for the decade ahead.

This show accompanies the one that will be inaugurated on 20 May at PHmuseum Lab, our headquarters in Bologna, Italy and it is part of a yearly project that started with the open call and ended in a curated limited edition publication available here.
