Period Piece

These images are of three queer couples in their homes. The series is meant to represent the intimate safeness and beauty of being together during menstruation.

Growing up, my period was often seen by myself and my peers as shameful and humiliating. As I became sexually active, my period became even more humiliating. Often times, avoiding partners during that week for the fear they would find out what was happening. As I experienced different partners, and started to become more comfortable in my skin, my period became an active participant in my sex life. The more my partners accepted my period as a natural part of my life, the safer I felt. There's something very unique and safe about two people who get their periods, something demystifying about it all.
