Odintsovo-1

It is a project that deals with a collective and personal trauma of losing a home and family traditions to urbanisation.

Odintsovo-1 is a project that focuses on the intertwined feelings of anxiety, romantic nostalgia, uncertainty, and fear of the unknown. In the last couple of years the village faced resettlement and aggressive industrial expansion of the district. This drastically affected the local community and shifted its social landscape. The old district of Odintsovo-1 was a safe and stable haven for numerous generations of families that lived and worked there. Now the area is being destroyed for the new, much larger district to replace it, and locals are forced to accept the new reality and leave their family homes.

The project becomes a place for me to re-enact our family’s memories of the place and process the loss of our family home and changes that are outside of our control, and the emotions that come with it.
