Enroll In The New PhMuseum 2023/24 Online Masterclasses Program

Develop your photography projects and curatorial skills working with professors like Erik Kessels, Laura El-Tantawy, Max Pinckers, and Salvatore Vitale.

PhMuseum is very excited to introduce a renewed Online International Education Program, designed to elevate talents and help you develop a strong, sustainable creative practice.

For the first time, we present 4 masterclasses that will all share a single intake period, running from 18 April to 9 June, with classes beginning in October 2023. Each course is tailored to meet the needs of emerging photographers, artists, curators, and contemporary storytellers looking to bring their methods to the next level. In these coming weeks, you can learn more - don't miss the online open day on Thursday 27 April - and apply for one or more of the following programs:

1. Folio - Online Masterclass On Photobook

Over the course of seven months, participants will receive guidance from Tommaso Parrillo (Publisher, Witty Books), Giulia Boccarossa (Designer), and Rocco Venezia (Curator, PhMuseum) as they work towards the conclusion of a project, making it ready for publishing. While all the dummies produced during the masterclass will be exhibited at PhMuseum Days 2024, Witty Books will select one of the participants’ work to be published in a 500 copies edition as part of its official catalog. Learn more and apply for free here.

2. Criticae - Online Masterclass On Documentary Photography

Led by acclaimed authors and professors Laura El-Tantawy and Max Pinckers, photographers will expand their research methods and develop their documentary work. The program will be conducted online over the course of 8 months, with the ultimate goal to complete a personal project and acquire valuable skills. At the end of the masterclass, one or more participants will be selected for an exhibition at the PhMuseum Lab in 2024 - an opportunity for international exposure and a chance to present their work in a public venue. Learn more and apply for free here.

3. Curae - Online Masterclass On Curatorial Practice

Together with artist and curator Erik Kessels, participants will explore research, planning, and curatorial variables within the realm of exhibitions and expand their understanding of the curator-artist relationship. Mixing theoretical seminars with practical sessions over the course of seven months, Kessels will teach, inspire, and guide you to curate the best possible exhibition with your own or someone else’s work. Learn more and apply for free here.

4. Mediae - Online Masterclass on Transmedia Storytelling

Guided by Salvatore Vitale, participants will be challenged to select a theme, conduct research, and develop work over the course of seven months. The ultimate goal is to conclude a transmedia project that incorporates photography in conjunction with various other media, such as sound, archive images, social platforms, video, and text, to create a more immersive and engaging experience for their audience. A new masterclass designed explicitly for visual artists seeking to explore the expressive potential of photography. Learn more and apply for free here.

Each Masterclass offers Group Classes and Seminars that provide theoretical and practical guidance on contemporary photography, allowing you to enjoy ideas and feedback both from the professors and from other coursemates. The One-To-One Mentoring sessions instead are conceived to offer you a moment of privacy with the head professor who will answer the specific needs of your practice. The Online Studio Visits allow participants from across the masterclasses to discover the practice of external guests. Another opportunity to connect with peers from other classes and ask questions to experts in the field such as Mathieu Asselin, Jon Uriarte, Silvia Rosi, Sybren Kuiper, Amak Mahmoodian, and Federico Clavarino.

PhMuseum's masterclasses offer a unique opportunity to learn from some of the most talented and experienced professionals in the field. While enjoying a flexible program that you can access from anywhere in the world, you can become part of a group of 40-plus selected participants. Just submit your application before 19 May to access the Early Bird Fee or be considered for one of the 4 fully-funded scholarships.

To help possible participants carefully choose the right program for their needs, we will host an online Open Day on Thursday 27 April at 3 pm CET - you can register here.

PhMuseum's educational program is dedicated to providing a comprehensive learning experience for all participants, emphasizing quality teaching while alternating practice with theory. Don't miss this opportunity to elevate your skills and develop long-lasting relationships. Check the detailed info and link to the respective programs below, and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at edu@phmuseum.com
