£12.000 in cash prizes, a solo exhibition at Cortona On The Move and a publication on Witness, World Press Photo Foundation's online publication, are among the prizes of the renewed annual grant, which aims to support the making and sharing of visual projects.

For the fifth year in a row, the annual PHmuseum Grant celebrates the importance of  visual storytelling. Stories teach us and shape us as human beings. We need stories to make sense of the world, ourselves and understand how the two relate to each other. Storytelling is about making a connection, an authentic and human one. A connection that can only be made when stories are being seen and shared.

Since the start of its existence in 2012, PHmuseum has functioned as a curated global platform dedicated to contemporary photography. Its aim was and still is to showcase the most significative stories of our times and spread them towards an international audience. In this sense, the PHmuseum Grant has always been a great channel to discover stories and catch the attention of a public beyond the photography industry itself.

The new upgraded edition of the Grant offers significative money prizes of £12,000 in total and different prizes enhancing the diffusion and visibility of the projects. A prestigious solo exhibition at Cortona On The Move, including an invitation to join the festival, will be granted to a project handpicked by Arianna Rinaldo, the Artistic Director of the festival. A publication on Witness, the online publication of the World Press Photo Foundation, will grant all the winners and honorable mentions exposure to the World Press Photo international network. A projection at Just Another Photo Festival will allow those projects to be seen in public spaces across India.

In addition, we believe that photographers who are at the start of their career often need some guidance and help in the choices they make. For this reason, the winner of the New Generation Prize 2017 - awarded to a photographer under 25 years of age - will receive a 9 month long online mentorship by acclaimed photographer and mentor Maggie Steber.

Through the help of our great panel of judges, the PHmuseum 2017 Grant will celebrate outstanding visual stories and discover new talent. Talent with a unique voice. Photographers who not simply illustrate our world and humanity, but rather interpret it.
