Cortona On The Move - New Visions
For its 7th edition this year, international photography festival, Cortona On The Move has partnered with LensCulture to create a free open call that aims to attract the very best original documentary photography from around the world. The name – ‘New Visions’ – is a reference to the ever-changing language of photography; one that adapts and changes in accordance with society and culture. "We are looking for work that will amaze us" say the organisers. "In the new spirit of 'on the move', we will value the originality of style and language with which the works have been conceived and created… We are seeking documentary works that are conceived with an honest intention and do not fear experimentation." they add.
3 winners will have an exhibition at the next edition of Cortona On The Move (13 July – 1 October, 2017), and 4 works will be published on Repubblica.it in July. Antonio Carloni (Director of Cortona On The Move), Jim Casper (Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder of LensCulture), Arianna Rinaldo (Artistic Director of Cortona On The Move), and Laura Sacket (Creative Director of LensCulture) comprise the jury.

The Leica Oskar Barnack Awards aim to support photographers "whose unerring powers of observation capture and express the relationship between man and the environment in the most graphic form."
The winners will be selected by a jury composed of Karin Rehn-Kaufmann (Art Director, Leica Galleries International), Michelle Dunn Marsh (Executive Director, Photographic Center Northwest), Christian-Matthias Pohlert (Managing Picture Editor, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), Douglas So (Founder and Director, F11 Foto Museum), and Scarlett Coten (Independent Photographer).
The winner of the Leica Oskar Barnack Awards main category will pick up a cash prize of €25,000, while the Newcomer Award – to be granted to a photographer aged 25 years or younger – comes with a €10,000 endowment. Winners of both categories will receive a Leica M camera and lens worth €10,000.

The Foam Talent Call is a leading international competition for photographers between the ages of 18 and 35; it is a platform that helps young, emerging talents launch their careers through recognition and exposure to industry experts. Selected artists will get their work on to the pages of Foam Magazine’s Talent Issue, a publication that circulates throughout international art institutions, and in the Foam Talent exhibition: a showcase which has previously travelled to Paris, London, Brussels, and the Unseen Photo Fair in Amsterdam.
Applications can only be made using the submission process on the Foam Talent Call webpage. Only complete submissions will be considered for the award – this means 2 projects both featuring between 8 and 10 images, a short statement about each project in English, and an abridged C.V.

Visa pour l'Image Festival Open Call
Visa pour l'Image is calling all photographers to submit their projects for exhibitions and evening screenings at this year’s festival, to be held from 2 - 17 September, in Perpignan. Applications must feature between 50 and 150 images from a single story and an accompanying text presenting the work. Multiple stories may be submitted, but each must include a minimum of 50 images.
Visa pour l’Image emphasise that they are "an international festival of photojournalism focusing on news and current affairs." Art photography or series’ of portraits will not be considered. Deadline: 30 March. To learn more, go to visapourlimage.com.
Luma Rencontres Dummy Book Award Arles 2017
The Luma Rencontres Dummy Book Award is designed to provide all professional photographers and artists with an opportunity to fund the publication of a dummy photobook. The competition is endowed with a €25,000 production budget, including €3,000 for the author or authors, while Les Rencontres d'Arles and a publisher (to be selected) will co-publish the book in consultation with the winner.
A shortlist of 25 names will be announced in May, after which an international panel of judges (to be announced) will convene and select an overall winner. The jury will be particularly interested in "editorial quality and technical feasibility" say the organisers. The 2017 winner’s dummy book, as well as those of the finalists, will be exhibited this summer during Les Rencontres d’Arles, from 3 July to 24 September.

IWMF - Howard G. Buffett Fund For Women Journalists

The Howard G. Buffett Fund For Women Journalists advocates and promotes the work of female reporters and helps them pursue projects that will turn them into news industry leaders. Over the next nine years, the IWMF will distribute an annual total of $230,000 worth of grants to support a wide range of innovative, original, and collaborative endeavours to strengthen the skills of women journalists worldwide.
The fund offers grantees the opportunity to: expose under-reported but critical global issues; undertake ambitious projects that challenge traditional media narratives; develop field-based expertise and strengthen careers; pursue critical skills training and leadership opportunities; and launch entrepreneurial news projects.
A voting committee comprised of distinguished IWMF Board Members, Courage in Journalism Awardees, former IWMF grantees, and senior practicing journalists will select the grantees.

CENTER - The Project Development Grant
The CENTER Project Development Grant is an international competition open to photojournalists, fine art or documentary photographers looking for funding to continue working on projects that are currently in progress. Applicants "should be at a place in their work and career where they can benefit from the exposure, networks, and opportunities that CENTER offers."
The awards package includes a $5,000 monetary endowment; a show in the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico; a special invitation to participate in the Art Photo Index; a publication on Lenscratch; and an online exhibition at VisitCenter.org. The 2017 juror is Paul Moakley (Deputy Photo Editor at TIME Magazine). Deadline: 3 March (entry fee: $45 members / $55 non-members of CENTER). Apply at visitcenter.org.

The Project Launch is granted to an outstanding photographer working on a fine art series or documentary project. The award includes a $5,000 monetary fund to help complete or disseminate the work, and further acts as a platform for exposure and professional development opportunities.
Mazie Harris (Assistant Curator, Department of Photographs, J. Paul Getty Museum), Christy Havranek (Photo Director, The Huffington Post), and Dewi Lewis (Publisher, Dewi Lewis Publishing) are the jury members this year, and they will be "looking for cohesive, compelling bodies of work that are ready for international recognition."

The international Organ Vida Festival, an annual two-week celebration of photography that takes place every September in Zagreb, Croatia, has launched its Open Call. The theme this year is New Citizens – “Right now, no matter where we are, we find ourselves in a fireball of political confusion that sees us descending rapidly into liberal authoritarianism, fascism and border-euphoria, and in which humanism is under grave threat. It seems all the more important then, to find and draw on what connects us” writes juror Katrin Koenning. “We ask for your views of a New Citizen that far extend the conventional understandings of its ‘origin-definition’ which is confined to state and city and town; we ask you to think citizen as anywhere-human, beyond entitlement, nationality or allegiance to government. Show us counter-language; a new way of navigating what it means to be alive and to live in a (post)capitalist, climate-changed 21st Century world. Whatever your photographic approach may be, show us new dialogues and new imaginaries” she continues.
Katrin Koenning (Australian-German artist) is joined by Cristina de Middel (documentary/conceptual photographer), Dana Lixenberg (Dutch artist), Pieter Hugo (photographic artist), Leila Topić (art historian), and Sean O'Hagan (photography writer) on the jury.
